SPORTS UPDATE OCTOBER 14, 2009


BOYS & GIRLS CROSS-COUNTRY
On Tuesday October 6th, the boys and girls cross country
teams defeated Country Day. Senior Adam Sadler came in
first overall with a time of 17:23. Laura Sabourin placed
first in a loss for the girls team. Last weekend, both boys
and girls cross country teams finished 26th at the Oakland
County Meet. Sadler finished 55th in the boys competition
with a time of 17:39 while Sabourin finished 23rd in the
girls competition with a time of 20:28. At Royal Oak
Monday, the boys team defeated Berkley 44-17 but lost to
Royal Oak 20-40 as Sadler won in 17:03. The girls team
lost to Berkley 23-28 and to Royal Oak 23-38. Sabourin
finished second in 20:28.
This Saturday October 17th, the team will compete in the A.
A. Gabriel Richard Invitational at Hudson-Mills beginning
at 10 am. Wednesday October 21st, the team will compete
in the OAA League Meet at Royal Oak starting at 4:30.
Saturday October 31st, the team will compete in regionals
at Metro Beach at 10 am hoping to qualify for states at the
Michigan International Speedway on November 7th.


GIRLS GOLF
Thursday October 8th, the Girls varsity golf team finished
4th at regionals with a score of 377 at Heather Highlands
Golf Club, finishing behind Seaholm, Port Huron Northern,
and Marion. Though the team needed to finish in the top
three in order to qualify for the state finals, three girls did
individually qualify. Jessica Turner, Anna Urso, and
Michelle Friedman came in 3rd, 7th, and 9th, respectively,
and will compete next Friday at Forest Akers East on the
Michigan State campus to end the season.

BOYS SOCCER
Wednesday October 7th, the varsity boys soccer team lost
to Brother Rice 7-1 but defeated Berkley 1-0 the next day.
October 13th they beat Andover 3-1.
On Friday October 16th, the Groves League Champions
Soccer team will face Walled Lake West at home
beginning at 7 (JV begins at 5). October 20th the team will
play their first round district game home at 6 pm against
Pontiac.

GIRLS SWIMMING & DIVING
Tuesday October 6th, the Girls Swimming and Diving
Team defeated Cranbrook 119-67. In addition to a Groves
sweep of the relays, Tori Howe, Annie Lazor, Elise Dalley,
Ashley Mitson, and Anais Woo won races. Senior Emma
Brown won the diving. Thursday at Lahser and won 107-
79. Groves again swept the relays, Emma Brown again
won the diving, and Elise Dalley, Ashley Mitson, and Annie
Lazor won races. October 13th the team traveled to Lake
Orion and won 124-62 led by yet another relay sweep,
Emma Brown victory, and race wins by Annie Lazor (200
IM, 100 backstroke), Elise Dalley (50 free), Tori Howe (100
free), Ashley Mitson (500 free), and Mary Kate Sovran (100
breast).
Thursday October 14th the team has a home meet against
Stoney Creek beginning at 6:30 before turning their focus
to MISCAs Saturday held at Eastern Michigan University.
Next Thursday the team faces Seaholm at home beginning
at 6:30.

BOYS TENNIS
The boys varsity tennis team finished 2nd at regionals
Thursday October 8th, finishing only behind Seaholm. The
team qualified for state finals next Friday in Plymouth,
which will be the last competition this season.

GIRLS VOLLEYBALL
October 8th, the varsity volleyball team defeated Lake
Orion three games to one. October 13th the team lost in an
away match with Rochester 3-1, barely losing the last two
games by scores of 23-25 and 24-26.
Saturday the varsity team competes in the Mount Morris
Invite and the following Tuesday October 20th will face
Farmington away beginning at 7. Saturday October 24th,
the team will again compete in the Mount Morris
Invitational.

BOYS WATER POLO
Tuesday October 6th, the Boys Water Polo team defeated
Grand Blanc 13-5 in their rematch after winning 16-9
before. October 8th, the team defeated Troy Athens 18-5.
Over the weekend, Groves went 3-1 at the Rockford
tournament , defeating Okemos, Ann Arbor Huron, and
Grandville but losing to East Kentwook. October 13th the
team defeated Seaholm 11-5.
Thursday October 15th, the team has a game at Troy
beginning at 7:30 before Districts on October 23rd.
